The Central Continental was conceived as a way of connecting several city pairs, to other city pairs, and ultimately including cities that would otherwise be missed by the other lines with a geospatially significant transit route.
This corridor is designed principally as a passenger route for the purpose of connectivity. As it is not one of the main Transcontinental routes it may or may not require the level of infrastructure buildup as the others. However, the Central Continental is unique in that it is about half American and half Canadian, providing a deep link between the two nations with an Ultra-High Speed service. In that sense, this line might be the most consequential, and might represent one of the most populuous per-stop average lines in the system.
The Central Continental connects the following cities:
San Francisco, CA
Sacramento, CA
Reno, NV
Salt Lake City, UT
Cheyenne, WY
Omaha, NE
Chicago, IL
Detroit, MI
Toronto, CAN, ON
Ottawa, CAN, ON
Montreal, CAN, QC
Quebec City, CAN, QC
The Pacific Coastal Corridor connects at San Francisco, CA.
The Midwest Railway intersects at Cheyenne, WY
The Central International intersects at Omaha, NE.
The Mideast Railway intersects at Chicago, IL.
The Atlantic Coastal Corridor terminates at Quebec City, CAN, QC.
As a stop on the Pacific Coastal Corridor (PCC) and start of the Central Continental, San Francisco provides a connection through some underserved cities to connect to the expansive Canadian North.
The expectation is that Sacramento will be an intersection of the Central Continental and the California High Speed Rail Project, providing regional connectivity.
Slightly larger than Sacramento, but slightly hotter and dryer.
One of the potential water routes is from San Francisco or Oakland to Salt Lake City. The other is a diagonal purpose-built route from Los Angeles or Phoenix (originating from Mexico). Water might be directed here from several spots.
The expectation is a regional link between Cheyenne, Denver, and Colorado Springs as a highly prioritized Midwest Railway subsection.
Need i say more.
Possible lake crossing.
Like Chicago, Detroit will become a fixture of the International line between the US and Canada. It is the city on the border.
Welcome to the big time.
